Keep your garden free of weeds
For a garden to grow healthy, strong and beautiful, it must be properly maintained and cared for. Among the most common problems that can cause damage are the following and spoil your garden, there is the growth of weeds. Weeds grow rapidly and much earlier than the rest of the plants in the garden in early spring.
They are called “bad” because where they grow, they not only compete for nutrients and moisture with other plants, but also with the rest of the plants. compete for nutrients and moisture with other plants, but depending on their size, they can alsoDepending on their size, they can cast shade and harbor microorganisms that spread disease in your garden or orchard.
So the key is to identify them, tackle the problem as soon as possible and of course keep track of them so that they do not spread or grow back. Here are 5 techniques you can implement in your care routine to eliminate weeds in your garden.
1. Dig up weeds
This is the simplest and most common method of weed removal. Weeds, which are usually shallow-rooted, are dug up with the help of a garden spade. If you are dealing with perennial weeds with a long life cycle, such as bindweed and nettles, you will have to dig deeper with a pitchfork to make sure that the entire root is pulled out, as any bits that remain will be used for the weed to grow back. As their name indicates, perennial plants are very resistant and grow as soon as environmental conditions are favorable, so their control and elimination must be continuous.
At Roots we have all the hand and power tools you may need to remove weeds from your garden:
2. Removing weeds with a hoe
One of the tasks that is part of the maintenance of any orchard or garden or garden consists of hoeing the bare areas of the soil to cut the roots of the weeds and achieve a dry soil, which prevents the germination of weed seeds. Ideally, this activity should be done on dry days so that any weeds that may have been stirred to the surface will dehydrate, wither and die.
3. Pull weeds by hand
It is best to pull weeds that may develop deep roots by hand. On rainy days or after generous watering, the soil is soft and this makes it easier to pull out the weeds completely. In the case of weeds growing between the holes in the pavement, it is best to scrape them out with an old knife, sickles or scythes. It is also recommended to apply an herbicide after cleaning to prevent weeds from growing back.
4. Apply a mulch
If the extension of the garden land is considerable, eliminating weeds manually can be exhausting as well as insufficient, so in these cases the application of a mulch is recommended, which prevents weed seeds from having access to the ideal conditions for germination. The mulch is spread in such a way that a layer of at least 5 cm thick is achieved, thus blocking the sunlight so that no weeds can grow. If the mulch is also combined with the placement of an anti-weed mesh, we ensure better control and elimination of weeds, since it will be more difficult for them to take root and grow in unfavorable soil.
Compo Mantillo is a product of natural origin formed by composted organic matter that improves soil structure and quality. It stimulates the biological activity of the soil, richer in nutrients with a higher water retention capacity.
It binds soil particles together to improve soil structure and is ideal for all types of garden plants: lawns, fruit trees, conifers, climbers, orchards, rose bushes, trees, etc.
5. Spraying herbicides
Another solution is to use chemical products to kill perennial weeds. Herbicides should be chosen with care, since failure to apply the product properly can damage good plants. Total or non-selective herbicides should be applied only to those spots affected by weeds, and with patience and care, since this type of herbicides do not discriminate and kill all types of plants on which they fall. There are also selective herbicides that are sprayed on the leaves of what you want to eliminate, but they do not harm the rest of the plants in the garden and are specific for broad or narrow leaves. In the case of not wanting to use chemical products, there is also the possibility of resorting to home remedies, such as the application of boiling water, salt, borax or vinegar on the leaves of the weeds.
COMPO Herbistop Herbicide is extremely easy to use because it is already diluted and ready for application. You only have to use it on those weeds you want to control. Once the treatment is finished, only those green parts that have been wetted directly with the product will die.
