We at <b>ROOTS<\/b> have chosen the five perennials that thrive in shade for you to turn that patio into a space full of life. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>Autumn ferns.  <\/b>Autumn ferns are an excellent choice for adding a dimension of color to your perennial collection. They have beautiful coppery red foliage in the spring that turns a rich green color in the summer. These plants like to be in moist, well-drained soil, but be careful that they don&#8217;t get too much water, as they can be prone to root rot. In general, these plants are quiet, but slow growing.   <\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>Hydrangeas.<\/b>  With a wide variety to choose from, hydrangeas are a perfect choice for your shady garden if you want to add beautiful, dramatic color. Most hydrangea varieties require some morning sun, as afternoon sun can be too strong for them. Did you know that you can even change the color of the flowers? Alkaline soil produces pink flowers and acidic soil produces blue or purple flowers. Regular watering may be required on really hot days.    <\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>Japanese holly fern.<\/b>  Japanese holly fern is a very hardy fern that embodies glossy dark green leaflets. It remains evergreen in mild winters and remains a perfect choice for ground cover or your shady garden border. Japanese holly ferns can grow up to two feet tall and three feet wide, so be sure to allow for the mature plant and leave plenty of room to grow. And like autumn ferns, they also like evenly moist, well-drained soil.   <\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>Hostas.<\/b>  As a very low-maintenance plant, hosta is another great choice. And with an amazingly wide variety of sizes, colors and textures, you have plenty of options to choose from! They can grow up to 60 centimeters, both tall and wide.
